Roswell UMC / DARE Trip to Augusta, GA
7/16/26 – 7/18/26
Roswell UMC sent its DARE team to Augusta, GA on our 12th trip in 2026. DARE had 36 total volunteers from 9 different churches and groups working with the team over our 3-day deployment. Members from Roswell UMC, East Cobb UMC, Dunwoody UMC, Oak Grove UMC, NorthPoint Community Church, Habitat for Humanity, Duluth UMC, Grace UMC and Northside UMC. Special thanks to Advent Lutheran Church for hosting our team. DARE was able to continue Long-Term Disaster Recovery assistance for three separate homeowners during this deployment. DARE completed the installation of drywall on the lower level of a new project. We expect to return to finish the drywall, paint and install new laminate flooring. We completed most of the “punchout” work on our second project. Some plumbing work will need to be completed, and the homeowner can move back in. Our third site saw DARE complete a yard cleanup and install wooden and chain-link fence. The septic system needs repair and the homeowner will be able to move back to her home.
DARE continues to lead the way in Georgia’s Disaster Response Ministry.
Let us all understand that once the news cycle changes and a new story-of-the-day becomes the current topic, the disaster survivors continue to suffer. DARE is committed to our mission of being a group that can be counted on for the Long Term. As our guiding scripture (Luke 5: 17-26) illustrates, after an event there might still be a hole in the roof. DARE will always be there to “Fix the Roof.”
DARE UPDATE: * DARE has registered www.whofixedtheroof.com as our new website domain. Our own Mason Foley began building the website and it looks great. The site is now live!!! Please check the website for trip recaps and updates. Share the site with everyone and let’s make sure DARE becomes a daily website that we visit often. There will be a trip update with pictures in the coming days. Thank you Mason, this is very exciting for our little group.
- Our monthly trips began in July 2023 and with the completion of our July 2026 trip, DARE has now surpassed a full year of volunteer service hours (365 days X 24 = 8760 total hours.) Thanks to everyone who has offered their time to the Long-Term Recovery Efforts of DARE. We have amassed volunteer service hours. DARE is very excited about surpassing 10,940 service hours. According to the US Labor Department, the average hourly pay for construction labor in Georgia is $24.00 in 2026. That means that DARE has been credited with over $262,000.00 in volunteer labor. Great job!
